Who we are

YVR Garage Door Springs is a garage-door repair business operating across the Greater Vancouver area. We are a private-sector organization based in British Columbia, and we are subject to both the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

Our Privacy Officer is the business owner. To ask a question, request your information, or file a complaint, reach us at:

What we collect

Things you tell us. When you call, text, email, or submit the quote form on this site, you give us some combination of: your name, phone number, email address, service address or postal code, and a description of what's wrong with your door. The quote form specifically collects name, email, phone, postal code, and the short description you type in.

Things our site picks up automatically. Standard server logs (your IP address, the page you requested, the page that referred you, your browser type, and a timestamp) — kept by our web host for security and traffic counting. We also use a small browser-side script that reads your approximate location from your IP address so the homepage can show the right service area for you. The location lookup happens in your browser; we do not store the result on our servers.

Things we store in your browser. A short list of small values, none of which identify you personally:

  • localStorageorigin_city: the city we detected (e.g. "Burnaby") so the site doesn't have to re-detect on every page load. Cleared when you clear your browser data.
  • sessionStorage — UI dismissal flags (e.g. you closed a banner) so we don't show the same prompt twice in one visit. Cleared when you close the tab.
  • No first-party analytics cookies. No marketing-list cookies.
  • No advertising-network cookies are currently set by this site. If we activate Google Ads conversion tracking, Google may set _gcl_au and _gcl_aw first-party cookies when visitors arrive from a paid Google search ad. We will update the "Advertising and analytics" section below with the activation date on the day we turn it on.

Why we collect it (lawful basis)

Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA, we collect, use, and disclose personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate. Specifically:

  • To do the job you asked us to do — dispatch a technician, quote the work, complete the repair, invoice it, and honour the warranty.
  • To follow up on a quote inquiry — if you ask for a quote, Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) gives us implied consent to reply about that inquiry for six months. We use that consent only to answer your question. We don't add you to a marketing list.
  • To keep the site working and safe — basic logging, fraud and abuse prevention.
  • To meet legal obligations — tax, warranty, and consumer-protection record-keeping.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only when we have to, and only with the following:

  • Our technicians and office staff, so they can show up at the right address with the right parts.
  • Hostinger, our website host, which stores server logs on our behalf.
  • ipapi.co, the IP-to-city lookup service. Your IP is sent to them when you load the homepage. We don't store what they send back. Their policy: ipapi.co/privacy.
  • Government, courts, or law enforcement when we are legally required to.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent it. We do not trade it. We do not put you on email or SMS marketing lists without your express consent.

Advertising and analytics

We use the services listed below. We disclose the activation date for each one so you can see when it started:

  • Google Ads (planned, not yet active): we intend to run Google paid-search ads to be findable for searches like "garage door spring repair Vancouver". The Google Ads tag is not currently loaded on this site, so no conversion-tracking cookies are being set today. When we activate it, Google will set first-party cookies (_gcl_au, _gcl_aw) and read the gclid URL parameter on visits from paid clicks so we can measure which ads actually led to a phone call or quote request. We will not run remarketing campaigns and will not serve ads back to you on other sites based on your visit. The activation date will be added to this section the day we turn it on. You can opt out of personalized advertising in advance on Google's Ads Settings page, or opt out of third-party advertising cookies broadly at the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page.
  • Google Analytics 4 / Google Tag Manager: not currently active. If we add either in the future, we will update this section with the activation date and the data they collect. You can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to block GA4 measurement in advance. Google's privacy practices: policies.google.com/privacy.
  • Call-tracking software (e.g. CallRail) — not currently active. If we add it, we will disclose the activation date, the numbers that route through it, and how long any recordings are kept.
  • Meta / Facebook / TikTok / LinkedIn pixels: none active. We do not run social-media ad pixels on this site.

Note on EU users: Google's EU User Consent Policy applies only to visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. We do not serve those regions. Canadian visitors are not subject to that policy and we do not display a consent banner.

Retention

We keep personal information only as long as we need it:

  • Quote inquiries that don't turn into a job: up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Completed-job records (name, address, phone, what we fixed, what we charged): seven years, to satisfy CRA record-keeping rules and to honour parts/labour warranties.
  • Server logs: rolling 30 days at our host, then overwritten.
  • Browser localStorage and sessionStorage: we don't control these — they live on your device until you clear them or close the tab.

Security

We use physical, technical, and administrative safeguards proportionate to the sensitivity of the information: encrypted email, password-protected devices, locked filing for paper invoices, and access limited to staff who need it to do their jobs. The site is served over HTTPS. No system is perfect; if a breach happens that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by law.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA and BC PIPA you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we hold about you and how we use it.
  • Get a copy of that information.
  • Correct anything that's inaccurate or incomplete.
  • Withdraw your consent to our continued use of it, subject to legal and contractual limits (we can't delete an invoice the CRA requires us to keep).
  • Ask us to delete information we no longer need.
  • Get an explanation if we say no.

To exercise any of these, email info@yvrgaragedoorsprings.ca with "Privacy request" in the subject. We respond within 30 days at no charge.

Children

This site and our service are for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority in BC (19). If you're under 19, have a parent or guardian contact us instead.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy we change the effective date at the top. Material changes — for example, turning on Google Ads, adding analytics, or starting a marketing list — will be called out plainly here. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.

How to file a complaint
